Epistemological Challenges in Southern Scholarly Publishing

The post-colonial period witnessed a vibrant change in the Southern publishing landscape. There is a prevailing situation that the scientific community in developing nations solely depends on the northern publishers. Even though the existence of illegitimate publishing cannot be denied, there is a tendency to marginalize southern knowledge production by patronizing non-mainstream publishing as ‘predatory’. Besides, a monopoly also exists in the academic publishing industry, leading to grave epistemic injustice. Any attempt at a framework to illustrate the various issues of the emerging global research community is worthwhile. Further studies are warranted to assess the inclusion, openness, barriers, and pernicious effects of Southern scholarly publishing.
